Ted Stevens Marine Research Facility

66,000 sf | Junea, Alaska | Critical Environments

Hermanson was the full mechanical contractor for the completion of this unique 66,000 sf Juneau office and laboratory center supporting the Alaska fisheries. Along with chemistry, genetics and biology labs, the facility offers a large wet lab, a necropsy room equipped to handle small marine mammals, large fish, and sharks, an ichthyology lab for sorting and identification of specimens, two large walk-in freezers, and a large dayroom for contractors and project personnel. The wet lab is unique, with 1,200 gallons per minute of filtered sea water in 2,000 sf of enclosed wet lab, with an adjacent 4,000 sf of outdoor wet lab space. In addition to lab space, the TSMRI includes reception, administration, lab library, computer services, conference facilities, and offices for 85 scientists and staff members.
