Meet Quincy Slater, a fitting foreman at Hermanson whose curiosity and dedication help drive every project forward.

Quincy grew up in Nebraska and moved to Seattle in search of new opportunities. Before joining the trades, he spent seven years at Darigold as a Licensed Pasteurizer. Quincy realized that the skills he had developed working with milk processing—understanding the movement of liquids and systems—could translate to pipefitting. That insight led him to pursue an apprenticeship with Local 32 and start a new career path in the mechanical industry. 

Quincy enjoys the constantly evolving nature of the field.

“Technology keeps advancing, and we’re finding better ways to perform our work. It’s exciting to see how much has changed over the past eight to ten years. I love building things, and I love my job.”

Family is central to Quincy’s life. He and his wife have been married for ten years and have two children, a nine-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter, along with their dog, Red. Outside of work, he enjoys camping, snowboarding, golfing, and fishing.

Quincy values Hermanson’s supportive and team-oriented culture.

“Hermanson feels like a family. It’s not just a job. You feel like you’re cared about while you’re at work. They care about their employees, not just getting the work done.”

Currently, Quincy is working on piping at the North Main Terminal for Alaska Airlines, which will wrap up early next year. Looking back, his favorite project was the North Satellite, where the full mechanical team worked seamlessly together.

When asked to give advice to those starting out in the industry, Quincy encourages persistence and resilience.

“Don’t get discouraged. Take constructive criticism in stride and keep your head up.”
