Hermanson's Estimating Department began tracking mechanical construction cost indicators in 2017 to share quarterly with the AEC community. Based on costs to complete a comprehensive, representative PNW region project, this information assists general contractors, developers, and owners make informed decisions about project costs.

For Pipefitting Foreman Benji Aguilera, working in the building trades has been a family tradition. Benji’s grandfather was an electrician and his uncle a millwright, so after high school Benji enrolled in the welding program at Oregon's Linn-Benton Community College.  

At Linn-Benton, Benji earned his Associates Degree in welding technology and began working as a pipe fitter/welder in 2011. He joined Local 290 in 2017 and has spent time working on industrial projects including local papermills and chemical plants before being hired by Hermanson as a Pipefitting Foreman in 2019...

Hermanson's Estimating Department works to compile the factors that influence quarterly mechanical construction costs and pass that information along to our clients (including general contractors, developers, and owners) to help them understand and plan for possible cost impacts to their projects. 

Hermanson’s Mechanical Construction Cost Index is based on a comprehensive, representative PNW region project. A complete estimate for this baseline project was completed in Q4 2017 and is updated with current pricing each quarter. In 2020, economic impacts of COVID resulted in a year-over-year decrease, however that trend has reversed, and Q1 2021 saw a quarter-over-quarter increase of 13.4%...

After 44 years working as a pipefitter, Curtiss Corkum is retiring next month.  

Coming from a family of union pipefitters including his father and three brothers, Curtiss will be passing the torch on to his own son who also works for Hermanson at the Main Pipe Shop. Curtiss’ own journey began in 1977, at Todd Shipyard as a Marine Pipe Fitter Helper on frigates after signing up at the Local 32 union hall.

Like the pull of the Death Star tractor beam, Hermanson Plumbing Foreman Noel Burbridge has felt the tug of a career in plumbing all his life. Both Noel’s father and uncle were plumbers and he spent summers helping on jobsites.   

Noel enjoys being a part of a construction team and says it would be difficult to think about doing anything other than construction. He particularly likes working for a full mechanical contractor like Hermanson where every craft worker is contributing to the success of a project.
