Hermanson Company recently welcomed a local high school student for a job shadow experience through Career KickStart, a career-readiness program that connects students with hands-on learning opportunities and exposure to potential career paths.

Career KickStart, funded by the Issaquah Schools Foundation and managed by the Issaquah School District, is a free four-day summer program designed for rising juniors and seniors. Through workshops, company tours, and job-shadow experiences, students gain valuable insight into a variety of industries and professions.

This summer, Siena, a rising senior at Skyline High School, was matched with Hermanson after expressing an interest in exploring careers in the skilled trades. During her visit, Siena shadowed Tina Dannewitz, Hermanson's Sheet Metal Shop Lead Foreman, for a behind-the-scenes look at the company's sheet metal fabrication operations.

Throughout the day, Siena observed the work that takes place in Hermanson's shop, learned about career pathways in the trades, and gained firsthand insight into the skills, teamwork, and problem-solving required to support construction projects across the region. 

Following her visit, Siena shared her appreciation for the opportunity and noted that Hermanson had opened her eyes to a career path she had never considered before. She also reflected on how welcoming and supportive the Hermanson team was and enjoyed hearing employees share their personal journeys into the trades.

Building the Next Generation

The job shadow experience also reflects Hermanson's continued commitment to workforce development and creating awareness of careers in construction and the skilled trades. Through initiatives such as the Heavy Metal Summer Experience and partnerships with schools and community organizations, Hermanson works to inspire and support future industry professionals
